2026 TBR
Genres & Goals
This year I’m trying to be more diligent about reading. Fifteen years ago I could read a new book every week, while I don’t feel the need to read at that pace, I do feel the need to slow down, unplug, and disappear into another world lately.
Back when I was in high school I exclusively read paranormal romance (I guess that was our Romantasy back in the day) and it was pretty clear where my writing inspiration came from if you read any of my work from my teen years. In college I began to appreciate the classics and became more curious to explore outside of my typical genre. As I embark on this chapter of my writing journey, I have a desire to read a lot more nonfiction and explore horror and fantasy writers that I admire with a more critical eye. I’m hopeful that in doing this I’ll be able to draw inspiration in unexpected places.
So far this year I’ve been utilizing the convenience of audiobooks and have read Shari Franke’s The House of My Mother (which I loved) and Sex Cult Nun by Faith Jones. This one was shocking at multiple points as I didn’t know a lot about the Children of God cult, but it did provide me with some day-to-day life inspiration for the more mundane elements of the cult featured in the novel I’m writing.
This list is fluid and will surely change as the year goes on, but these are the books I’m currently most excited to read.
What books are you excited to read this year? Can you give me any recs based on what I’ve listed here?
